The door to the small lively village bar peeled open, swinging shut behind him as he walked across the creaky floors.
He took in a deep breath, the chattering and bustle of people was a welcome reprieve.
Sol Valley usually had the best bars- the most packed ones, anyways.
It’d been a while since he’d last found the chance to go to one. He’d finally managed to find a babysitter able to watch Tyme for the night to give him a day off and by the Gods he needed it,
He beelined to the barstool lined counter, nodding to the barkeep as she walked over to him.
“What’ll it be?” “Whatever your cheapest whiskey is.” She nodded, turning to grab his order as Keith’s eyes wandered around the bar.
He spotted a group of 3 huddled together, each holding various coloured drinks and chatting enthusiastically.
Next to them in a booth he spotted what he assumed was a couple on a date, though he noted neither seemed overly interested. Mustn’t be going well…
He could see a scrawny looking white wolf leaning against the wall with a hoodie pulled over his head, it kind of looked like he was trying to look intimidating but it… wasn’t really working.
On a poster on the wall above the bar he saw-
Clink
-He was snapped out of his train of thought by a drink clanking on the counter in front of him, looking up at the uninterested bartender.
“That’ll be 3 gold.”
“Yep- hold on,” he stuck a hand in his pants pocket, unearthing 3 coins and placing them in the woman’s outstretched paw, taking the drink with his other hand. “Thanks,” she nodded to him before walking off to serve the next customer.
Sipping his glass of whiskey he found himself zoning off again, watching the intermingling of the patrons, feeling silently envious at how many seemed to already have their person- or people.
Finishing his first glass of whiskey he signalled for another, promptly being served with his second glass- silently grateful for the night’s free refills, he was running low on gold.
He heard the bell ding of the front door opening, absently registering it as footsteps approached the bar. He looked at the person as he walked into view- immediately taking notice of him.
He sat a few seats down, the barkeeper walking up to him in greeting. They almost immediately got to chatting, he assumed they knew each other, and a drink was promptly placed in front of him.
He guessed he was a goat- the large horns and beard were pretty hard to mistake.
He wore a white undershirt with a brown vest over it- almost akin to a corset, and long black hair fastened into a low ponytail.
He couldn’t help but find himself staring at the man. It wasn’t often he admired another man in this way, but something drew Keith to him.
Maybe it was the way he held himself, or the way he snickered at what Keith figured was a funny joke that he just didn’t catch.
Maybe it was his hazel eyes that almost reflected green when the light reflected in them just right.
Maybe it was the aura of confidence he seemed to almost radiate.
…Or, maybe, just maybe, it was the fact that he was really hot.
Before he could think of anything to actually say to him, they locked eyes- shit, shit- he’d seen him. Keith darted his eyes away, face flushing red out of embarrassment. Dammit, he was pretty sure he just blew it. He silently cursed.
A few seconds later he heard footsteps walking towards his stool, looking up to see the goat standing over him.
“Mind if I sit here?” He gestured to the stool next him
“Oh- I don’t mind.”
Taking a seat beside him, he gestured to the barkeep before turning to Keith.
"So, what brings you here tonight?” The goat asked, rapping his claws against the wooden counter, leaning slightly towards him. Keith cleared his throat, attempting to keep cool.
“Just here to let loose for the night, you?” Keith took another sip of his drink. The goat hummed in acknowledgement, the barkeeper he’d been speaking to earlier placed a drink in front of him with a nod.
“Something like that.” He responded, picking up his drink and taking a swig.
“Did you come here with anyone?” The goat asked, Keith suddenly becoming very aware of how warm his cheeks were growing.
“I didn’t… did you?” He tried his best to keep his voice calm, though he was considerably flustered. He certainly wasn’t new to flirting or being flirted with, however it’d been a good while.
“Was hoping to find someone to leave with, but no.” He paused, idly tracing the rim of his cup with his claw before he seemed to remember something.
“Shit, forgot to introduce myself- I’m Samael.” He said with a light chuckle, glancing away.
“Keith,” He responded, leaning slightly closer to him. He swigged the rest of his drink down.
“You from around here?” Samael shook his head, taking another large swig of his drink. “No, just visiting…” “Yeah, me too…”
“Any occasion?” Samael mused, taking a long sip of his cocktail.
Keith paused, debating how much to say. Something about ‘wanted to get a break from being a dad to my dead brother’s child’ didn’t really give off the mysterious sexy energy he wanted.
“Just passing through, I don’t stay in one place long.”
I’ve got a hotel room for the night though,” Keith smirked, feeling a surge of confidence kicking in.
Samael leaned even closer- shoulder now brushing up against Keith’s.
“It’s funny you should mention,” he lingered, locking eyes with Keith. “I hadn’t booked my room yet tonight…” Samael inched his hand closer to Keith’s.
“My bed does have room for one more…”
“And you know, it’s getting late… I should think about finding a room soon…” Samael placed a hand on Keith’s arm.
“Well, I was thinking it’s about time I get back-” Keith leaned close enough that their noses were touching, his whiskers brushing lightly against his face- watching as a light blush crept across the goat’s face.
“Mind if I walk you there?” Samael asked, though he seemed slightly more flustered now- Keith was counting that as a win in his book.
“Be my guest,” Keith went to stand up, holding out a hand- Samael taking it before following suit.
The pair walked quickly towards the exit- door swinging closed behind them.
“So- just making sure, you do want to stay the night?” Keith asked, Samael half-snorted half-snickered in response. “Why else would I be walking out with you?” “Just making sure,” he chuckled
Keith took a moment to orient himself, remembering where the hotel was from here. Right across the street.
.
“Here-”
The pair arrived at the front of the door, pausing for a moment in front while Keith pulled out the set of keys he’d been given, haphazardly shoving the key into the lock and pushing the door open.
Tossing the pair of keys onto the desk beside the door Keith moved his now free hand to rest on Samael’s hip, other hand still interlocked with his. He lightly pushed him against the wall by the door, leaning down so he was eye-level with the goat.
“May I?” He spoke softly, lips almost brushing against Samael’s.
“You may,” he responded, releasing his hold on his hand to wrap his arms around Keith’s neck- Keith’s hand in turn moving to cup his face as their mouths collided.
Keith pushed him further against the wall- back now pressing against the cold wooden surface, clinging tightly onto Keith as their bodies pressed tightly against each other. Keith silently thanked any imaginary god that granted him the luck to happen upon someone tonight.
They stayed like that for a few more moments before Keith pulled away, wiping his mouth on the back of his shirt sleeve. Samael took a moment to recuperate himself, going to unbutton his vest before pausing.
“Wait- before we go any further, this is all just for tonight- I don’t do anything more than that, got it-?”
Keith shrugged his shoulders, sitting on the edge of his bed. “I never stay in one place for more than a night, don’t worry-”
Samael smirked, making his way to the bed, “Good.”

The morning sun spilled into the small hotel room through the window half-covered by green plaid curtains, bringing forth the next day, and eventual awakening, along with it.
Keith groaned as the sun positioned itself in the perfect spot to shine directly on his eyes- painting his vision with the dark red of the back of his eyelids. Ughh… couldn’t he just keep sleeping for a little longer?
He hugged the large warm pillow next to him closer, burying his face into the soft fur- wait.
It took his sleep-addled brain a moment to remember the events that had preceded this morning, though the sleeping man he was holding and laying next to was as good a clue as any.
He loosened up his hold, not wanting to disturb his sleep- at least he was guessing he was still asleep.
He allowed himself to relax, the comfort of having another person next to him was something he didn’t even realise he’d missed.
Sure, it’s not like it was something he used to do super often, but he’d had a few girlfriends- he’d had a handful of other one night stands, it was nice.
You know, the one night stand part and the cuddling part.
He couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment knowing that it would likely be a while longer until he experienced this again.
It was another few minutes before he felt Samael begin to stir in his arms, grumbling quietly as his eyes peeled open, face resting in the crook of Keith’s neck with one arm loosely around him. He blinked a few times before looking up at Keith, still visibly only half awake. Samael yawned, lifting a hand to rub his eye.
“Morning-” Keith said quietly, internally feeling a little disappointed that the moment was already ending so soon.
“G’morning-” Samael mumbled sleepily, unwrapping his arm from around Keith, sitting up into a stretch.
“Sleep well?” Keith asked, rubbing his eyes. “Mhm-” Samael nodded, running a hand through his mussed up hair in what Keith assumed was a halfhearted attempt to smooth it.
Samael took another few minutes to sit in silence, fully waking up- Keith didn’t necessarily mind though, he was pretty tired too from the previous night.
“Sooo…” Keith finally spoke up, glancing around a little awkwardly. Samael looked over to him. “It was uh, nice meeting you- I guess I probably won’t see you around again,” Keith continued. Samael looked down at the bed, nodding. “Probably not,” he paused, tapping his claws on the mattress.
“You know, I travel around a lot too-” Samael said tentatively, still looking down at the bed. “What town do you think you’ll be in in, say, 2 weeks?” He looked up at Keith, catching him slightly by surprise.
“Oh- I was planning to head to Amberwood Glade after this, should be there in about 2 weeks.” Samael hummed in acknowledgement, looking away again.
“I should be there then,” He finally stood up from where he sat, leaning down to collect his clothes that he’d discarded on the floor.
“If you’re at the local bar there in 2 weeks time, you’ll see me around.” He said, slipping on his pants and overshirt, turning back to look at Keith.
“Yeah- yeah, I’ll be there.”
“I’ll see you around then, Keith.” Samael shot him a smile, pushing open the door and walking out.
…
Sweet.
