“What…” Menhir stared down at the blood on the ground. The three splayed corpses lay before him, knives, crystals, and stones protruding out of their skin. Their blood boiled, their faces forever frozen in an agonizing scream in their deaths. Their eyes were blown out from the sheer force of the mutilation. It was horrifying… even to Menhir. “What… why am I-”
A sudden bang, echoes of the torture prior. He could still hear their voices, their pleas. He looked down to Crucify, the innocent spider still twitching in death, a half-woven tapestry as she tried to hide before. They were terrified, but he could see the glimpse of a happy family being plastered on the tapestry. Sear held tightly onto the spear she held, the rest of her body limp and lacking blood and muscle. Even in the afterlife, her spear was still positioned between Menhir and the other two. A wall. A protector. Genuine love for her siblings.
Brutus’s corpse was practically just mush, but trinkets from his pockets rolled out. Gifts he had received from the children of the old daycare, children who adored their superhero. The superhero is now reduced to the same slop that those children would eat if starving.
His breathing was rapidly picking up. Was that… panic? Terror? No, it couldn’t be! A mortal would only feel such things if their moral code was shattered, and his code required no such thing as care. As love. Guilt.
