The System of a Matriarch's Suicide

“He always hated you.”

No. No, h-he didn't. I know he-”

“He despised you.”

“No! No, you’re lying! A liar!”

“He would rather you were dead.”

“Stop it! He cared for us! We all cared for each other!”

“He saw you as a monster.”

“Stop! Stop! Please! Don't spread lies of him! Of us!”

“He saw you as pathetic, just as you always were.”

“Stop!” Ubathi screamed out as she awoke, the hard stone bricks beneath her cracking at the force of it. The aching of her back, the soaked clothes from her tears and blood, the stump of her arm bleeding once again. Panic surged through her capacity. Was it a nightmare? A terrible vision? Was it reality? It was nauseating, her body shaking as she tried to get a hold of herself.

“A weak creature you are. You have no right to call yourself a bulwark, Ubathi.” The voice, but whose? No one else was within the temple at this hour, and the voice was unrecognizable.

“No, no! I can help people! I tried to help him! He just, he was just scared! He was-”

“Spiteful. Hateful. Enraged.”

“Confused! He knew I wouldn’t hurt him! He just, he-”

“Wanted to kill you.”

It hurt to imagine, but Ubathi knew deep down that it was true. Solomon was aiming to kill. After all, he managed to kill Scalene despite her best efforts.

“You were a fool. Trying to help the enemy rather than your ally.”

“I-I didn't think he would kill her-”

“She is dead because of you.”
